MindBalance offers Medicare Psychology in-person in Gosford, NSW or via Telehealth
Firstly, to access psychology services under Medicare, you need a referral from a general practitioner (GP), psychiatrist, or paediatrician. They assess your mental health needs and determine if psychology services are appropriate.
Next, If your GP determines that psychology is appropriate, they will work with you to develop a Mental Health Treatment Plan (MHTP). This plan is required for Medicare rebates and outlines the number of sessions you can access initially (typically 6 sessions).
After the initial sessions covered by the MHTP, your psychologist and GP will review your progress. If further sessions are needed, your GP can authorise additional sessions (up to 10 per calendar year) by updating your MHTP.
We have options for how you can claim your rebate. After each session, your psychologist can provide you with an invoice and you can claim a Medicare rebate for a portion of the fee by submitting your invoice online through MyGov or at a Medicare office. Alternatively, we can submit your claim for you!
You will need to pay the psychologist’s fee upfront and then claim the Medicare rebate. The amount you pay out-of-pocket will depend on the psychologist’s fees and any gap between their fee and the Medicare rebate.
Regularly review your progress with your psychologist and GP. Adjust the treatment plan as needed to achieve your mental health goals effectively.
